With the colder days and darker nights now upon us, we’ve been looking for the best things to see and do this winter close to our resort. With so much on our doorstep, it was incredibly difficult to pick out just a few things, but we think we’ve got it nailed down.
From lights & markets to entertainment and a slice of winter sports, there really is no better place to be this winter than London and London’s Riverside Resort.
One of the highlights in the UK’s calendar and an often-overlooked gem, Christmas at Kew is a truly unmissable opportunity to enjoy all that the winter months have to offer. Enjoy the world-famous botanical world in a new light, as it twinkles with stunning light displays, and the cold air is filled with seasonal sounds. With its glittering tunnels of light, dazzling displays on the lakes, and plants drenched in colour, there really is something for everyone to enjoy at this display of larger-than-life illuminations which will brighten up those dark evenings.
A familiar spectacle returns to TW this winter, with the yearly Teddington Lights set to be another brilliant evening for the entire family. Get ready for an unforgettable evening, as the street comes to life with twinkling lights, delicious food, and a great range of entertainment for the entire family. This year promises to be a bigger and better spectacle than ever before, so be sure to get down early on November 23rd to soak in the atmosphere!
If you’re feeling more adventurous and fancy taking a trip up into Central London, the Oxford Street Lights are sure to be dazzling throughout the winter months. With over 5,000 stars to light up one of London’s most iconic streets, created by more than 300,000 LED bulbs, this is a truly unique spectacle that is sure to draw your attention on those cold winter nights.
Take a stroll through one of London’s many winter and Christmas markets, soaking in the atmosphere plus hustle and bustle throughout the winter months. There is a wide variety of markets across the capital, catering to a variety of your needs. If you’re just looking for somewhere close by, Kingston offers a great winter set-up in their market square. If you’re branching out a little more, then Southbank and Covent Garden offer a stunning backdrop for their markets, which are just a 30-minute train journey away from Teddington Station.

Another favourite for many locals and visitors to south-west London, experience the historical dramas and peer into the lives of Henry VIII, his wives, and children in the world of the Tudor court. A palace rich in history, see the Great Hall and historical Tudor Kitchen before making your way across to the baroque palace and exploring 60 acres of stunning gardens. During the winter months, Hampton Court lays on a whole host of festive activities to bring the palace to life. Enjoy the palace festive fare at the beginning of December with handmade gifts in a truly unique setting. If you’re looking for something a little more active, be sure to visit their dazzling ice rink with the palace as a stunning backdrop throughout winter.
A now-iconic club fixture and one which many local sports fans look out for when the fixtures are released, this year’s Big Game sees a double header at Twickenham stadium with Harlequins Women taking on Gloucester Hartpury before Harlequins play Gloucester. With a sell-out crowd expected at the home of England Rugby, expect a spectacular atmosphere for what is set to be a brilliant spectacle starring some of the world’s best. It’s not just the rugby to look forward to, with brilliant entertainment from the likes of Faithless, Pete Tong, and Scouting for Girls having entertained the fans previously and making for the perfect day to catch up with friends and family.
London is thriving with great spots to treat yourself to some much-needed retail therapy. If you’re looking for somewhere local to The Lensbury, why not walk down to Kingston Upon Thames with a thriving selection of stores which are sure to meet your needs? Alternatively, head into central London and take a visit to Covent Garden, Oxford Street, or the brand new Battersea Park Shopping centre.
Those looking for a slice of light entertainment are spoilt for choice within the local area. The winter offers an array of theatre to enjoy, with plenty on offer locally with an array of theatres close by. With Richmond Theatre and the New Wimbledon Theatre close by, you can find both serious theatre or pantomimes which are perfect for all ages. Richmond also offers The Orange Tree theatre for those looking to keep things serious. And of course, central London brings to the front some of the nation’s best stage shows with an award-winning array available to you just 30 minutes from London’s Riverside Resort. From award-winning classics such as The Lion King and Wicked, to newer performances such as The Time Traveller’s Wife and Tina The Musical, there is something for everyone’ tastes.
